Xiaomi Users Are No Longer Able to Access This Handy YouTube Premium Video Feature
Xiaomi users are getting more features on their Android phones and one of them is the popular YouTube feature reserved for premium users. But if you have been using a Xiaomi phone, this premium feature is available for free.
Now it seems that YouTube has realized the loophole and the benefit that Xiaomi users will get, which is why the mobile brand is finally removing support. We are talking about the ability to play YouTube videos in the background, which is offered as part of the Premium service with a monthly fee.
But Xiaomi users have been able to use this feature for free thanks to the MIUI integration, which has gone unnoticed for a long time. A new update has been spotted recently and this report suggests that Xiaomi will be forced to remove the feature called “Play video sound when screen is off” from MIUI 14, 13, MIUI 12 and even the new HyperOS versions.
It has been mentioned that Xiaomi received compliance demands, possibly from Google (which owns YouTube), to remove the feature to give equality to people who actually pay to use these features.
The fact that HyperOS has also been added to the list to remove this feature means that the newly launched Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra models will also lose the benefit of playing YouTube videos in the background for free.
The update for Xiaomi phones will be offered over-the-air in the coming weeks, and after that, YouTube videos will only play when the screen is off if those users pay for YouTube Premium. YouTube offers its Premium users other benefits such as ad-free access to videos, the ability to play any song through the YouTube Music app, and more.
